Alban CAT, the Caterpillar dealer for the mid-Atlantic Region is accepting applications for a Applications Engineer I - Power Systems for our Elkridge branch.
The Application Engineer, under the general direction of the Senior Application Engineer, is responsible for assisting consulting engineers and contractors in designing power system facilities and equipment, including Power quality equipment. Work under the direction of the Senior Application Engineer in Diesel and Gas fueled electric power systems for emergency and prime power application, including paralleling switchgear, UPS, CHP and other systems auxiliaries. Work with consulting engineers and contractors to develop project designs and specifications for power systems applications. Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. Assess power needs to ensure electrical loading and sizing parameters are accurately defined. Perform calculations for sizing circuit breakers, cables and disconnects. Assist sales team, project managers, and estimators with design issues. Review vendor drawings and specific type of equipment and materials to be used, in construction and equipment installation. Estimate labor, material, construction, and equipment costs. Assist Alban Project Managers and estimators with design-related questions. Assist consulting engineers for project designs and specifications on mechanical / electrical systems such as cooling, exhaust, lubrication, and other similar systems, depending on the specific application of the project. Assist internal Estimators, Sales Staff and Project Managers as needed. Act as in-house technical resource. Travel to other consulting engineer’s offices and jobsites as needed. Assist and train if required Entry Level Application Engineers to be able to support outside consulting engineers as well as internal technical staff.
Minimum of three years’ experience in electrical power systems. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering preferred. Must be a strong communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to train new Engineers effectively. Must possess ability to perform calculations for sizing of circuit breakers, wires, and disconnects. Must be able to prepare and read drawings to be used in construction and equipment installation, and be able to write and modify specifications; read and interpret contract documents. Must possess ability to estimate labor, material, construction, and equipment costs. Proven ability to understand interpret and meet complex customer needs through the preparation of proposal and other documentation. Must be able to travel to various sites. Must have good attention to detail. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
