Alban CAT, the Caterpillar dealer for the mid-Atlantic Region is accepting applications for a Combined Heat & Power Project Engineer for our Elkridge branch.
The Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Project Engineer, is responsible for assisting consulting engineers and contractors in designing CHP / Prime Power facilities and the installation of related equipment. Work under the direction of the Sales Manager Power Systems in Diesel and Gas fueled electric power systems for emergency and prime power application, including paralleling switchgear, CHP and other systems auxiliaries. Establish work plan and staffing for each phase of the project. Maintain a good level of product knowledge. Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users. Assess power needs to ensure electrical, heat loading and sizing parameters are accurately defined. Perform calculations for sizing all auxiliary equipment. Assist sales team, project managers and estimators with design issues. Review vendor drawings and specific type of equipment and materials to be used, in construction and equipment installation. Perform post-installation analysis to determine best practices and identify area for improvement. Make recommendations and implement improvements as required. Estimate labor, material, construction, and equipment costs. Review all procurement options to ensure specification compliance while achieving or exceeding project budget requirements and maintaining the required project schedule. Assist consulting /design engineers for project designs and specifications on mechanical / electrical systems such as cooling, exhaust, lubrication, and balance of plant or other similar systems depending on the specific application of the project. Identify, track and analyze key metrics for CHP and related business. Prepare project submittals, quotes and operation and maintenance manuals for submission to the customer as it relates to CHP projects. Act as in-house technical resource. Travel to other consulting engineer’s offices and jobsites as needed. Assist and train if required Entry Level Application Engineers to be able to support outside consulting engineers as well as internal technical staff. Work with product support team to establish maintenance /repair cost. Perform various other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum three years project planning experience, including leading engineering projects. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering preferred. Must be a strong communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills and have good attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing deadlines. Must be able to train new Engineers effectively. Ability to perform calculations for sizing or circuit breakers, wires, and disconnects. Must be able to prepare and read drawings to be used in construction and equipment installation. Must be able to write and modify specifications; read and interpret contract documents. Must possess ability to estimate labor, material, construction, and equipment costs and understand, interpret and meet complex customer needs through the preparation of proposal and other documentation. Must be able to travel to various sites. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Products.
