    Alban CAT, the Caterpillar dealer for the mid-Atlantic Region is accepting applications for Field Machinist II for our Dulles branch.

    Responsibilities

    The Field Machinist II is responsible for fabricating, re-engineering, repairing and disassembling/assembling components to perform boring and welding repairs in the field and shop sites.  The Field Machinist II also performs shop repairs on construction and on-highway trucks.  Perform machining and welding of metal parts with assistance of portable mechanical equipment, including boring tools, welding torches, stick and MIG arc welders.  Disassemble/assemble components, such as buckets, linkage and other components. Build up material with wire fed or stick welder.  Fabricate basic items as needed. Create blueprints, stencils, and design sketches to fabricate or repair necessary metal parts and to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of finished product.  Interpret specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process.  Ensure compliance to all specifications to ensure work is defect free. Re-machine parts to repair them and maintain critical dimensions.  Fabricate and re-engineer parts as needed to repair a defective machine part.  Interact with customer and answer repair-related questions as required.  Refer non-repair related questions to supervisor. Inspect completed work to determine structural soundness and fit to mechanical part. Clean and maintain portable machining and welding equipment. Assemble all components with help of power and hand tools.

    Qualifications

    Experience in machining and welding with portable machines; fabricating on heavy construction equipment. Must be able to work independently.  Must be able to interact with customers on a professional level. Must be an excellent communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to machine from raw castings and bar stock. Must be able to read micrometers, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate machining and/or welding process. Must have good troubleshooting skills. Must have valid driver’s license. Must be familiar with standard machining and welding concepts, practices, and procedures.  Must have tools related to machining and welding trade.
